New images have shown the vision for an exciting new development billed as the ‘world’s biggest play park’.

The fantasy village play area will be called Lilidorei – which means ‘the children’s adventure with play at its heart’ – and is due to open at The Alnwick Garden in Northumberland in 2023.

Lilidorei will have an all-year-round Christmas theme, with charming additions such as the wooden homes of magical creatures like elves and goblins, zip wires, slides and climbing walls connecting each area.

There will also be Christmas trees alight on top of each wooden house, with the gingerbread-esque houses aiming to give a festive feel all year round.

The park will also boast a stall for food and drink, such as hot chocolates and other festive-themed treats.

The idea for the park was dreamt up by the Duchess of Northumberland, and has been backed by £15m of government funding via the Borderlands scheme in the hopes it will attract a significant number of visitors to the region.

The Duchess, who says the park has been in her imagination for the last twelve years, is ‘delighted’ to see her vision finally be brought to life.

In an interview with the Telegraph, the Duchess Jane Percy said: “One of my real bugbears is how badly people do Christmas in the UK. It’s tacky. It’s not cheap.

“For parents, all we want for our children is to give them an experience at Christmas, for which they would probably pay almost anything. That’s really beautiful.

“Lilidorei turns all this upside down. It exists and it is captivating… We cannot wait to open the doors to Lilidorei and release the magic.”

Prices are yet to be revealed, though it has been confirmed that parents can pay for a £75 annual pass that lets kids visit every day. Additionally, there will be ‘Free Fridays’ so kids can visit for free during term times on school trips.

The attraction will be open 365 days a year, and is expected to launch in Northumberland in spring 2023.
