Blackpool Zoo is hiring people to dress up as inflatable birds to act as ‘seagull deterrents’.

If you like dressing up and chasing seagulls off then this could be the role for you. Blackpool Zoo is looking for the right candidate to help with their pesky seagull problem and deter those cheeky chip thieves away.

The job listing is for a ‘seagull deterrent’ and the role would be housed within the Visitor Services team.

Day-to-day duties will include dressing up in an inflatable costume and keeping the gulls away from the main visitor dining areas. The role will be offered with variable seasonal hours.

The full job advert reads: “At Blackpool Zoo it goes without saying that we love all animals! And as a seaside resort, Blackpool is not short of seagulls.

“However, the seagulls are proving to be a bit of a nuisance when it comes to trying to steal food from our visitors and our animal enclosures!

“We need to do what we can to keep the seagulls away from our main visitor dining areas, which is why we are looking for a team of people to join our Visitor Services team as ‘Seagull Deterrents’.

Blackpool Zoo recently announced that its new £1.5m big cat facility is nearing completion and African lion Khari, who has been temporarily looked after at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, will return in May.

A new £100k penguin habitat, named Penguin Cove, also recently opened which features a brand-new ‘improved and extended’ beach area alongside nest boxes and pools.
