Bar worker receives ‘shocking’ torrent of abuse from manager after handing in her notice at pub

A bar worker received a shockingly abusive text message from a fellow member of staff after she handed in her notice. 

Kiara Claire, eighteen, had been working at The King’s Ransom pub in Sale since May after being furloughed from her old job.

However, Kiara landed herself a new job, so she sent the pub’s assistant manager a polite text message informing him that she would be leaving.

She wrote: “The trial shift has gone amazingly today and they want me to start whenever I can. I will be handing in my notice tomorrow when I come in.

“I can’t thank you and the rest of the team more than enough for giving me a job.”

However, this message didn’t sit too well with her manager, known only as John, who swiftly sent back a lengthy reply.

The message read: “Kiara. My love. It’s my wedding day. I don’t give a toss if you’re employed or not.

“And whilst we’re doing this, as you have had the level of disrespect to message me, with this meaningful nonsense. ON MY WEDDING DAY. I would like to give you some home truths.”

He went on to slam Kiara for having ‘no initiative’, called her a ‘vacuous poser’, said that she is ‘too focused on how you look and not what you do’, and slammed her for being a ‘useless employee.’

He added: “You would rather text than do your job. You should be embarrassed about this. But hear my words. Because they will do you a favour. Nobody is interested in YOU. 

“Your work ethics are the only thing matter. Focus on the job and stop focusing on yourself. Beauty will fade. Dumb b**** is forever.”

Of course, Kiara couldn’t believe that the text message could be genuine, and even thought it was a joke. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, she explained: “When he messaged me, I thought it was a joke because that’s just my personality, I try not to take things too seriously.

“It was only until the next morning when I reread it that I started to get upset about it because the way it had been set out looked like he was being quite serious about it.”

Kiara admitted that the message was upsetting to read: “I suffer from anxiety and it was quite shocking and upsetting to read. It did make me feel worse, it knocked my confidence.”

She eventually told her mum, Joanne, who swiftly rang the manager to confront him – but he denied having ever sent the message.

Regardless of John insisting that his friends had taken his phone, Kiara’s mum posted screenshots of the message exchange onto social media, where it has since been widely circulated online.

The general manager of The Kings Ransom, known only as Tracy, addressed the incident, saying that she is aware and is investigating.

She wrote on Facebook: “As the General Manager of The Kings Ransom, I would like to assure you we take matters like this very serious and the matter is currently being investigated as a matter of urgency.

“I would like to apologise on behalf of The Kings Ransom for any distress caused.”
