Greggs fans are turning to Aldi, who are offering them free hot cross buns after the bakery left them off their Easter menu.

It is the second year in a row that Greggs have dropped the traditional Easter treats from their seasonal menu but Aldi has stepped in to save the day. The budget supermarket says it is offering 1,000 disappointed Greggs customers free hot cross buns ensuring they don’t miss out on them this easter.

To make the most of the deal, available from today, Greggs fans simply need to screenshot their Greggs app. Then send the photo via email to freealdibuns@clarioncomms.co.uk along with your name and address to receive a £5 voucher to spend on the Easter favourites.

With Aldi prices starting at 65p per pack, fans can enjoy a whopping 30 buns from the supermarket. The store sells a variety of different flavours to satisfy every taste — including the popular salted caramel buns.

The chain’s range in hot cross buns include the award-winning Specially Selected Luxury Fruited Hot Cross Buns (costing £1.25 for a pack of four), new Specially Selected Salted Caramel Blondie Chocolate Hot Cross Buns (costing £1.25 for a pack of four), or the new Caramelised Biscuit and Jaffa Hot Cross Buns (costing £1.29 for a pack of six).

Meanwhile, over at Greggs, a number of favourite Easter delights are expected to land on shelves very soon so customers can have their fill on the upcoming Bank Holiday weekend.  Confirming the news shoppers will need to go elsewhere to stock up on the seasonal buns, a Greggs spokesperson said: “While hot cross buns won’t be returning to our menu this easter, keep an eye out for other Easter favourites that will be arriving in our shop soon.”

Aside from hot cross buns, Aldi are also stocking some Marshmallow themed treats to celebrate the national holiday — though fans are raving about these for a different reason. Shoppers have been left in stitches at some apparent ‘rude-looking shapes’ in the sweets that they can’t unsee.

Instead of the bunnies and chicks they’re supposed to resemble, customers joked that they resembled something a little less savoury. One tweeter wrote: “Sorry Aldi, but that ain’t a bunny.” To which Aldi replied: ” We can’t even defend this one.”

Another commenter joked: ‘I wouldn’t want to roast these on a campfire…Things are complicated enough already.” Aldi joked back: “I can imagine it would be difficult to look them in the eye and burn them!”

A third person chimed in: “That’s obscene @AldiUK, what were you thinking???” While a fourth laughed: “Rhymes with chick though!”
