A cat was found abandoned along with a note from its owner to say they were ‘sorry’ and were forced to give her up.
One-year-old cat Lilo was rescued by staff at RSPCA’s Manchester and Salford branch after she was found along with a note left by her owner to say they could no longer look after her. The ‘heartbreaking’ note said that the owner was ‘sorry’ but they ‘can’t keep her anymore’ and they hope someone will love Lilo more.
Rescue staff said when they found the cat she was ‘very frightened’ and ‘timid’ but they said ‘thanks’ for the details provided by the original owner as this meant they were able to place Lilo in a foster home which ‘replicated her original home’ until they eventually found a new adoptive mum.
The full note read: “My name is Lilo (Lee-Low) and I am one.
“My mummy is sorry and she loves me very much but she can’t keep me anymore. I love treats and soft blankets to make biscuits on. I am an indoor cat too.
“I love to play and am very independent but I do love a snuggle and to sleep on the end of the bed at night. I’m a good girl and my mummy hopes someone will love me more. Please take care of me.
“PS: I have been with my mummy since birth so I’m not used to other people.”
In a post on Facebook, RSPCA Salford and Manchester branch wrote: “This is Lilo. She was found abandoned with this note attached.
“She was a very frightened, timid cat but thanks to the details provided by her owner we were able to place in a foster home that replicated her original home. She soon settled and forged a strong relationship with her foster mom. This enabled us to introduce her to new people and find Lilo the purrfect match of an adopter for her.
“Today we are taking Lilo to her new, furever home to a very excited adopter. We want to say a special thank you to her foster mom (she’s American!) and her adopted mum, for without them both we could not have made this happen. A great success based on team work.”
It seems this sad tale had a happy ending as Lilo eventually found her forever home with an adoptive owner to love and take care of her.
A number of commenters said that the original owner did ‘the right thing’ and that it was very ‘sad’ she could no longer look after Lilo. One posted: “Very sad the lady couldn’t keep her. But she did the right thing. I hope she sees this and knows her beautiful girl is fine.”
Another put: “It’s so sad but nowadays even when you have to move to new places a lot of tenancy agreement don’t allow animals.” And a third added: “Her original owner did exactly the right thing . She definitely loved her. Happy new home.”
