A British Airways Boeing 747 is currently en-route to its new home in Greater Manchester, where it will become a new tourist attraction.

The top deck of the decommissioned aircraft began its journey from Kemble – on the edge of the Cotswolds – at 9:30am this morning.

It is now making its way along the M5, M6, M56 and M60, with it scheduled to arrive at City Airport in Salford at around 2pm this afternoon.

Airline memorabilia company Doors2Manual plan to use the aircraft, namd ‘The Deck’, as a backdrop for weddings, conferences and for educational purposes.

It will also be the UK’s only 747 flight simulator using a real aircraft flight deck.

The flight deck and cabin has been saved from a sorry fate of scrappage, and will now provide a lasting and permanent tribute to one of aviation history’s most-loved passenger aircrafts.

Drew Hanna, co-founder of Doors2Manual and Director at The Deck, previously said in a statement: “This has been a dream of ours for a long, long time and we’re so excited to be finally getting ready for G-BYGA’s final journey to our hangar.

“I don’t think many of us will have witnessed a Boeing 747 driving up the motorway before so it’s set to be a sight many families and flight fanatics will never forget.

“We’ve been able to build Doors2Manual into one of the world’s leading suppliers of airline memorabilia and parts.

“Now being able to salvage such a significant part of an iconic aircraft is our biggest thrill so far.”
