Tunnel footage has shown the ‘disgraceful’ scenes between Manchester City and Atletico Madrid players following their Champions League tie last night.

The match – which saw Manchester City secure themselves a place in the semi-finals following a 0-0 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano – descended into chaos as Atletico’s central defender Felipe tackled Phil Foden in the 90th minute.

As Foden remained on the floor following the tackle, Stefan Savic attempted to drag him back onto the pitch, prompting both sets of players and substitutes to get involved.

There, Savic also appeared to headbutt Raheem Sterling and pull on Jack Grealish’s hair.

And while Manchester City managed to hold onto their win during the nine minutes of injury time, the hostility continued after the match, with footage from the tunnel showing players continuing to clash as they left the pitch.

Footage aired by TV channel RMC Sport showed Savic and Grealish being separated by members of staff as other players continued to clash.

Atletico substitute Sime Vrsaljko also appeared to throw a bib in the direction of several of the City players, with him later being restrained.

Police could then be seen entering the tunnel and dispersing the players.

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone refused to comment on the hostility in the post-match press conference, with Pep Guardiola saying: “‘I have nothing to say.”

He continued: “Don’t talk about referees. Or the opponents. Everyone saw the actions, that’s all. I’ve nothing to say. We take dinner and then we prepare for the FA Cup semi-final.

“It’s always difficult with these people in this stadium. It’s a big compliment for the players.

“We gave everything. We have to live these kind of situations. We can’t expect that we’re going to make everything marvellous against the champions of Spain.

“The opponent was really, really good.”
