A woman who was tested for coronavirus in the day visited a bar in the evening, before receiving test results which ended up coming back positive.

Rumba, in Congleton, had to close yesterday (August 17th) to allow for a deep clean and for all staff who were on shift to be tested for Covid-19.

The woman visited on Saturday despite not yet receiving her coronavirus test results, which she’d reportedly taken earlier on in the day.

The woman told the bar on Sunday she had tested positive for Covid-19 the day before.

This means anyone who already had bookings, including those wishing to take part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, have had their bookings cancelled.

Anyone who visited the venue on Saturday night has been contacted by the management of the bar and recommended to take a test.

A post on the venue’s Facebook page said: “Last night we were contacted by a customer who has tested positive for Covid-19 she was in the venue Saturday night (15th) from 7.45pm onwards.

“Unbelievably, it appears that the customer had been tested, and then took the decision to visit various pubs in Congleton on Saturday evening prior to receiving her test result.

“Although we have had no contact from NHS Track and Trace, we have closed Rumba for today to allow for all of our staff on shift to be tested for Covid-19 and for a deep cleaning of the venue.”

Bosses of the bar explained they have had put in place Covid-secure measures throughout the bar.

They added: “However as a further precaution we will be contacting customers who visited the venue on Saturday evening and recommending that they also have a test.

“The selfish actions of this person have unfortunately resulted in us cancelling bookings for today for people hoping to support us through Eat Out to Help Out, however if you had a booking for today we will gladly extend the offer to any other day this week if you would like to re-book.

“We will be in touch with people with bookings within the next few hours.

“Our house rules clearly state that if you are awaiting test results or displaying symptoms of Covid-19, then you should not visit Rumba.

“If we all follow the rules, then Rumba and the other pubs and bars in Congleton are a safe place to relax and have fun.”
