Woman tragically killed in Piccadilly Gardens bus crash named as husband pays tribute

The woman who was tragically killed at a bus stop in Piccadilly Gardens on Sunday evening has been named.

Joyce Bacon, 60, was returning home to Droylsden with her husband after watching the new ‘Top Gun Maverick’ film when the incident happened.

The collision occurred at around 9.25pm, Sunday, July 10th, at a bus stop next to Piccadilly Gardens.

According to the police’s initial enquiries, a double decker bus collided with three pedestrians, and despite the best efforts of emergency services Joyce sadly died at the scene.

Joyce’s husband Ian paid tribute: “Joyce was a loving mother, sister and wife. Joyce was always busy and she loved to take care of people. She was very generous by nature just like her mother. She won over people instantly with her fabulous smile.

“We will all miss her so much, especially me!

“I would like to thank the emergency services who fought to save Joyce and supported all of us who were involved in this terrible incident.

“Those who had the pleasure of meeting Joyce are devastated by our loss and we therefore ask for privacy at this time to allow us to grieve.”

The police have confirmed that the investigation into the collision is ongoing, and officers from GMPs Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for any information.

They are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who took dash or helmet cam footage of the collision or from Piccadilly in the minutes before the incident.
