The borough of Wigan is to be removed from the current restrictions in place across Greater Manchester, Leigh MP James Grundy has revealed.

On top of this, Oldham is set to escape a full economic lockdown. Instead, it will have to introduce extra measures around social mixing, the Manchester Evening News reports.

Mr Grundy, the Conservative MP for Leigh elected in 2019, has said that Health Secretary Matt Hancock will officially announce the news later today, Friday August 21st.

According to the Leigh MP, restrictions for Wigan borough will be lifted.

Going forward, the same measures that are in place across most of the country will now be implemented in Wigan – including households being able to meet indoors and businesses like bowling alleys, soft play areas and face beauty treatments being able to commence, according to Wigan Today.

As for Oldham, it’s understood the borough will not have go into into a full lockdown like Leicester did, after the number of cases were brought down this week.

Instead, it’s being reported that people in Oldham will not be able to socialise with other households anywhere at all, in a bid to stop the spread of coronavirus without having to shut down businesses.
