Vernon Kay has spent the day volunteering at Bolton’s newest vaccine centre.

Taking on the role of marshal for the day, the TV star helped some of the town’s most vulnerable residents get their Covid-19 jab.

Vernon spent the day at Bolton Wanderers Stadium where Hootons Pharmacy led the vaccinations. He took the temperature of those arriving, directing them to where they should be.

Speaking about his stint as a helper, Vernon told Good Morning Britain: “The experience as a whole was really really special.

“It was amazing watching all these people arrive , having dealt with three lockdowns, the moment they left after having their vaccination you could tell that there was light at the end of the tunnel for them, they felt like a weight had been lifted of their shoulders.

“Dr Helen has done a phenomenal job rolling out the vaccine in the Bolton area.

“What I learned was that in these vaccination centres in Bolton its 55 per cent medical staff and 45 per cent volunteers and the volunteers who I spoke to the were loving the fact they were helping out and doing something to get the vaccine out.”

Dr Helen Wall, from Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group said: “It really doesn’t matter who or where you are, meeting, a fellow Boltonian is like catching up with long lost family.

“Vernon took to volunteering like a duck to water.

“He had all the trademarks of a great volunteer — empathy, humour, compassion and a genuine interest in the programme.”

Well done Vernon!
