Two 15-year-old teenagers have been charged with the murder of Brianna Ghey in a Warrington park.

The boy from Leigh and the girl from Warrington have both been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Brianna on Wednesday February 15th, and the pair will appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court today.

The transgender schoolgirl was found lying on the floor injured in Linear Park, on Saturday February 11th. Emergency services were called by a member of the public just after 3pm but sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have said that they are exploring whether Brianna was the victim of a hate crime.

In a tribute issued after Brianna’s death, her family said the teenager was a ‘much-loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister’.

The statement continued: “She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her. Brianna was beautiful, witty and hilarious.“Brianna was strong, fearless and one of a kind.

“The loss of her young life has left a massive hole in our family, and we know that the teachers and her friends who were involved in her life will feel the same.”

Candle-lit vigils have taken place, and are set to take place, across the country to honour young Brianna’s life. Manchester will hold one in Sackville gardens tonight at 7pm.
