None of the pilot events hosted over the last few months triggered major Covid outbreaks, the Government’s delayed Events Research Programme report has found today.

Only twenty-eight cases of the virus were detected out of the 58,000 people attending the staggered events, Metro reports.

The findings state: “The report acknowledges that these numbers reflect the rigorous testing regime in place for attendance at each event and relatively low levels of community prevalence of Covid-19 at the time of running the first phase of pilots.”

Two of the events in the first phase of the pilot were held in Liverpool in April and May – those who attended the three-day festival, the two club nights or the Sefton Park gig were not required to wear face coverings, and were encouraged to take both a PCR and a lateral flow test on the day of the event and five days later.

The process saw five people unable to attend after testing positive, four being identified as possibly having the virus at an event and only seven having the virus four to seven days after they attended.

The government are yet to outline what the next steps will be following the results.
