The government has confirmed that the coronavirus lockdown is going to be extended in the UK.
Dominic Raab chaired the daily press briefing, as the Prime Minister continues his recovery from Covid-19.
Mr Raab, the foreign secretary and first secretary of state, announced that the lockdown measure will be in place for ‘at least the next three weeks’.
Mr Raab chaired the cabinet and Cobra earlier, saying that Sage, the scientific advisory group for emergencies, advised them that some of the measures were effective but that the overall image wasn’t so clear.
The Sage advice is that relaxing the measures would lead to a coronavirus making a resurgence, further damaging the economy – making the economic impact worse, not better in the long run.
On that basis, Mr Raab says the government decided that the restrictions will remain in place until at least May 7th.
