Strictly legend Len Goodman has died aged 78

He passed away peacefully with his family by his side

BREAKING: Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman has died at the age of 78.

Len Goodman passed away on Saturday evening, at a hospice in Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The much-loved Strictly star died from Bone Cancer, and was surrounded by his family. 

Goodman featured on Strictly from its launch in 2004 until 2016 and proved popular with viewers for his wry humour and avuncular critiques.

As well as Strictly, he also appeared on the US version of the show, Dancing With the Stars from 2005 until 2022, where he was last seen on TV, declaring he was retiring to spend more time with his wife Sue, and his grandchildren.

He was replaced as head judge on the BBC show by Shirley Ballas.

In a statement his agent, Jackie Gill, said: “It is with great sadness to announce that Len Goodman has passed away peacefully, aged 78.

“A much loved husband, father and grandfather who will be sorely missed by family, friends and all who knew him.”

Goodman began dancing at 19, winning various competitions, including the British Championships in Blackpool in his late 20s, after which he retired.

Goodman received the Carl Alan award in recognition of outstanding contributions to dance.

As well as his dancing and television career, he owned the Goodman Academy dance school in Dartford, Kent.
