Sir David Attenborough has called out anti-vaxxers, saying that they are ‘ignorant’ of the facts.

He went on to add that the majority of people understand the coronavirus vaccines are a medical ‘triumph’.

Sir David was asked how he would approach ‘anti-vaxxers’ and people who believe vaccines are not safe by Jon Snow during a Channel 4 News interview.

The 94-year-old replied: “It is an ignorance of medical fact and if you don’t understand it, it’s very easy to mistrust it.

“After all, you’re dealing with something precious – you are dealing with your own body, your own life, and you wish to protect that. Quite right too.

“And if you don’t understand what actually a vaccination does and to some degree, how it does it, then you say ‘keep off me’.”

The legendary TV veteran also issued a warning, saying that we would face a ‘serious situation’ if anti-vaxxers managed to gain the ‘upper hand’ in regards to persuading the public.

He added: “But it seems to me more and more people are understanding what this is and the majority of the population, I’m sure, understands perfectly well this is a great triumph of medicine.”

In the UK more than 10 million people have now had a coronavirus vaccine, according to the government, with 9,646,715 of those being first doses and 496,796 second doses.

Sir David revealed that he had been given his first dose last month.
