A woman from Salford flew to Jersey, visiting restaurants and shopping when she was supposed to be self-isolating.
The 22-year-old took a flight on October 12th to Jersey from Manchester and has now been fined £6,000 for breaking the self-isolation rules.
The student had been identified as a direct contact of a Covid positive person on her flight by the Contact Tracing team and should have been isolating for 14 days.
She was told to self-isolate and undergo a further test in eight days after her arrival, however, authorities made a number of attempts to contact her at her home address but got no answer.
She was found to be posting pictures on Instagram in restaurants and shops and therefore breaking the isolation rules.
She was finally reached by phone and subsequently arrested. She pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching self-isolation regulations and was fined £6,000 as an alternative to 24 weeks imprisonment.
Caroline Maffia, the Strategic Lead for Contact Tracing, Monitoring and Enforcement, said: “It is regrettable that someone should endanger the health of other islanders after being informed of the need to self-isolate.
“This fine demonstrates that we will pursue prosecution for those found flouting the law. Anyone identified as a direct contact of a COVID positive person must understand the importance of following public health advice and abiding by the law.”
