Rugby league Legends Rob Burrow and Kevin Sinfield are to collaborate on two children’s books about men’s friendship.

The ex Leeds rhino players shared an emotional moment when Sinfield carried Burrow, who has motor neurone disease (MND), over the finish line at Leeds Marathon so that they could finish the race together, highlighting the close bond between the two friends.

The book by Macmillan Children’s Books titled ‘Try’, due to be published in 2024, will explain ‘that friendships can be based on love and vulnerability’, Burrow said.

He said he wanted to bring the ‘message of friendship’ for children in the picture book.

Adding: “True friends like Kevin are always with their friends even when times are tough. I used to love reading bedtime stories to my three children, usually multiple times because they would try and delay their bedtime.”

The book, Try, will be preceded by a book called, With You Every Step: A Celebration Of Friendship, to be released in November this year.

The first book will explore ‘universal truths and celebrate kindness, empathy, resilience and love’.

Illustrators will reproduce the heartfelt words of the former teammates through black line artwork in the adult and children’s gift book, with some of the proceeds to be donated to help people with MND.

Kevin Sinfield said: “To create a book based around friendship, we hope it will help many parents, not just fathers, connect with their children and provide an insight into what true friendship is.”
