Ricky Hatton has made a trip to the city centre to donate thousands of care packages to Manchester homeless charities.

The boxing legend lent a hand at the Yianis Christodoulou Foundation’s mission to help those affected by COVID-19 in the city.

Yianis Christodoulou Foundation was founded by Entrepreneur Yiannakis ‘John’ Christodoulou, of The Yianis Hotel Group, which owns Hilton Deansgate Manchester. It was created to support disadvantaged children and their families in the UK and abroad.

Throughout the pandemic, the foundation has been distributing free food packages to those in need.

Ricky took to Instagram to show how he’d been giving his support. He wrote in his post: “In Manchester this afternoon delivering food for the homeless @barnabusmcr @yianischarity Hope your all safe during this tough time. #staysafe X”

More than 6,000 food parcels were hand-delivered by sports stars to homeless charities. Including former Liverpool FC icon Jamie Carragher who made donations to charities in Liverpool.

John Christodoulou said: “Mine and The Yianis Christodoulou Foundation’s principles are built on mainly helping those who are vulnerable and, with this current crisis many more need help within local communities.

“It means a lot to receive support from such respected sports stars, and the staff and volunteers from the charities were delighted to be able to meet them and be personally thanked for their ongoing hard work.

“We worked with and listened to the organisations to ensure we were providing them with necessary products.”
