RAF scrambles Typhoon jets in response to ‘unidentified aircraft’ approaching UK for second day

The RAF has scrambled fighter jets to intercept ‘unidentified aircraft’ approaching the UK for the second day running.

RAF Typhoon fighters have been launched to investigate the aircraft, which is ‘approaching the UK area of interest’, Sky News reports.

Once again the jets were dispatched from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray.

They were supported by a Voyager air-to-air refuelling tanker based at RAF Brize Norton, down in Oxfordshire.

An RAF spokesperson said: “Quick Reaction Alert Typhoon fighters from RAF Lossiemouth, supported by a Voyager Tanker from RAF Brize Norton, have been launched against aircraft approaching the UK area of interest.

“We will not be offering any additional detail on this ongoing operation until complete.”

The RAF have now confirmed that during the incident yesterday jets intercepted and escorted four Russian Bear aircraft away from the UK.
