A Greater Manchester pub was forced to introduce a ‘no mask, no entry’ policy after encountering issues with customers refusing to wear face masks over the bank holiday weekend.

The bank holiday, which was the first since COVID-19 restrictions were eased on May 17th, saw two days of scorching temperatures and, subsequently, bustling beer gardens across the region.

However, with the good weather came unruly behaviour from revelling Brits enjoying the pubs and the sunshine.

The Blackedge Brewing Company, which operates the Brewery Bar at Moreton Hill, Horwich town centre, issued a statement yesterday regarding their experience over the weekend.

The statement read: “It is with regret that I even have to make this announcement; however, with immediate effect we will be operating a NO MASK, NO ENTRY policy. If you are exempt then please download the card and simply show us on entry.

“The reason we must operate this policy is the sheer number of groups of people that have visited late during the weekend who were all ‘exempt’ from wearing a mask!”

The statement went on to point out that ‘COVID is exploding in Bolton’ and that the establishment will be fined £5,000 if found to be breaking the law.

They also explained that their staff had faced torrents of abuse after attempting to enforce the face mask regulations over the weekend, so a no-tolerance policy will now be adopted.

They continued: “People who try to enter the premises and don’t follow the rules set out by actual law will not be served and asked to leave. All incidents as such will be reported to the local pubwatch scheme so people who become abusive could face bans from all the local member pubs & bars.

“This is not difficult folks, wear a mask! Sit down at all times when drinking and be nice to all the people you encounter in your day/night out.

“To those that just couldn’t care less it would be good that they know in advance they are not welcome to visit us at this time.”
