An alleged coronavirus ‘super-spreader’ is being investigated, following reports he travelled to and from Spain despite showing symptoms.

The man, who is reportedly from Heywood, has now fallen seriously ill after arriving at Manchester Airport, and it is believed he is in intensive care.

Greater Manchester Police are undergoing an investigation into his alleged breaches of the restrictions that are put in place to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

People who fail to self-isolate despite positive test results face a fine of up to £10,000.

There are reports that a small number of ‘super-spreaders’ could be responsible for the rising rates in Greater Manchester.

Andy Burnham revealed last week that a man from Bolton who returned from holiday and went out drinking could be partly to blame for the spike of cases in the area.

GMP is looking into reports that the man from Heywood travelled to and from Spain despite allegedly displaying symptoms.

A statement from GMP said: “On Sunday 11 October 2020, police received a report that a man had allegedly breached Covid-19 restrictions by travelling to and from Spain via Manchester Airport whilst displaying symptoms linked to Covid-19.

“An investigation is underway.”
