The police are checking people going into Manchester today, to make sure their travel is essential.

GMP has set up a temporary roadblock in the city centre, so they can check on people travelling in.

Last week the Prime Minister ordered people in the UK to stay indoors, adding that there are only a few reasons why you can now leave your home.

This includes going to work if you’re a key worker, for exercise once a day, and to get essential food or medical supplies.

GMP Manchester City Centre posted a photo of the makeshift roadblock on social media.

GMP wrote on Twitter: “Officers are out and about in the City today checking if your travel is essential. If it isn’t then stay home!”

And people were quick to support them, with one writing: “Thank you GMP we need many more of these, more so at night.”
