In case you missed the news, four people were injured last night in a stabbing spree by Piccadilly Gardens.

The incident happened on Market Street yesterday, Sunday January 12th, at around 6.20pm, with Greater Manchester Police releasing a statement at the time.

It read: “Shortly before 6.20pm this evening, police were called to reports that two people had been stabbed on Market Street. Officers attended and a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of serious assault – a taser was deployed during the arrest. Four people have been injured and one has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

Now one of the victims has spoken to the Manchester Evening News, saying that the four people attacked were all homeless men.

Tommy Dennison, 52, told the MEN he was drinking coffee outside Primark when a man came up and slashed him across the face with a knife, not saying a word throughout the attack.

According to Tommy the offender went on to stab another homeless man metres away from him.

Tommy said: “He was outside Nero’s where the bin is. I heard him screaming so I went over to help him. I tried to calm him down, he’d been stabbed twice, in the back and shoulder.

“Then I heard more screaming, from the other side of the street. There was a commotion, all these people were in the street, phoning police. Officers came from everywhere, it was a sea of blue.

“[The attacker] was targeting the homeless, he didn’t say anything, he just walked up and slashed me.”

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing, and GMP currently have a 30-year-old man in custody.
