The parents of the person at the centre of the Huw Edwards scandal have been offered ‘tens of thousands of pounds’ to give a TV interview and break their silence, according to The Guardian.

The interview with the couple has reportedly already taken place and is currently being edited to air on Rupert Murdoch’s Talk TV — sister station of the Sun.

It is understood they will break their silence on their claims that Edwards, 61, paid their 20-year-old (who was allegedly 17 at the time) £35,000 for sexually explicit pictures.

The London Metropolitan Police have concluded that Edwards has not committed any crime, however, the BBC is carrying out its own internal investigation into the news presenter – including separate claims.

This follows fresh allegations against the News at Ten host from BBC co-workers — one current and one former — who say they were sent messages from him that made them feel uncomfortable.

After the police confirmed that no criminal offences had been committed, Huw’s wife Vicky Flind released a statement to confirm her husband was the BBC presenter at the centre of the allegations, after widespread speculation in the media and online.

In its first story, the Sun said the parents of the young person did not want payment for bringing their allegations to its paper.

In an editorial on Monday, the Sun said: “They did not seek any payment. They just wanted the payments harming their child to stop.”

According to The Guardian, a source at News UK told the paper the Sun had not made any financial payment to the couple but confirmed that TalkTV was speaking to them as part of a planned three-part documentary series.

The Sun said on Wednesday it had no plans to publish any more allegations against Huw Edwards and is cooperating with the BBC’s internal investigation.

This comes after Huw’s wife Vicky Flind issued a statement to say her husband was suffering from ‘serious mental health issues and had been admitted to hospital’.

The unnamed 20-year-old at the centre of the allegations has dismissed the claims as ‘rubbish’.
