No small talk while getting your hair cut under new guidelines for hairdressers and barbers

This will be weird!

Hairdressers and barbers have been urged to keep chat to a minimum when salons open for the first time in months.

Salons are set to open in early July and the National Hair and Beauty Federation have published guidelines for combatting the spread of coronavirus.

These guidelines have suggested that stylists should avoid face-to-face discussions with their clients.

It states: “Discussions about cut, colour and treatments should be made via the mirror while standing behind the client and kept to a minimum. You can lower the risk of infection if you stand or sit side-to-side rather than facing people.”

We’re all used to a natter with our hairdresser so this will be a massive change but unfortunately, it won’t be the only change we see.

The guidelines also recommend not allowing walk-in appointments, asking customers to not bring coats and jackets inside as the virus can stay on fabrics for days, especially in hot environments such as salons.

Many salons will be implementing their own rules and procedures such as no snacks or coffee and providing staff with PPE equipment. Some salons are even offering virtual consultations.

As of yet, no official date has been given for salons reopening but many are expecting it to be July 4th at the earliest.
