The number of coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester has jumped to 11, with two more confirmed this afternoon. The new cases were discovered in Wigan, with the local council confirming that the two cases are unrelated.
Professor Kate Ardern, director of public health at Wigan Council, said: “We have received confirmation of two unrelated COVID-19 cases in Wigan borough.
“We are working closely with Public Health England and the NHS to prevent further spread of the virus and we will share timely and relevant information with the public.
“In the meantime, we continue to remind residents to follow good hygiene practices and if you show any symptoms, please ring 111.” This brings the total number of coronavirus cases in the region to 11, including one person from Stockport who was a patient at Wythenshawe Hospital, one from Bolton, one in Oldham, three in Trafford and three from Bury.

To help stop the spread of the virus, the NHS recommends covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve when you cough or sneeze, immediately putting used tissues in the bin, washing your hands with soap and water often, and avoiding close contact with people who are unwell.
If you’ve recently travelled from areas affected by coronavirus, the current UK medical advice is to call NHS 111 to inform them of your travel and stay indoors and avoid contact with people.
