Stockport police have described the moment they were blamed by a mother of a youth who fell off a stolen bike.

The youth was riding the bike through Brinnington in Stockport when he spotted a police car down the street. He attempted to retreat but managed to get stuck in mud and fall off the bike.

He apparently dusted himself off and abandoned the bike which had been stolen from Denton, before running away.

As the police went to inspect the bike, the boy’s mum turned up at the scene ‘hurling abuse’ at the police.

She told officers that by being in the area, they were to blame for her kid falling off the stolen bike.

A police officer shared details of the incident on social media writing: “Another stolen bike recovered, stolen from Denton and recovered from Brinnington, after a youth on the stolen bike seen a police vehicle down the street and while turning the bike around to make good his escape, got the bike stuck in mud and fell off it.

“The youth dusted himself off and made off on foot while the officers remained with the stolen bike….. for moments later, the youth’s mother to turn up and give the officers abuse for being in the area to cause her little cherub to fall off the STOLEN bike.

“You couldn’t make it up.”

The tweet has received a relatively supportive response, one person wrote: “if it was my kid he’d have been grounded for the rest of his life and Xmas cancelled, no presents for him cos the money spent would have gone towards paying the owner back”.

Another added: “An example of what is wrong with society. Parents defending their delinquent children.”

While a third said: “you arrested the youth then??”
