A ‘much-loved’ grandad who went missing last week has sadly been found dead, his son has said.

Gary Alder, 70, was last seen on Tuesday December 5th, with reports of him spotted at Swinton Precinct at around 11am and then near Aldi in Eccles at around 1pm.

Greater Manchester Police have not yet released any details about Mr Alder’s death but his passing was confirmed by his son on Monday evening (December 11th).

His son, Ryan Donlon, told the Manchester Evening News that the family had become ‘increasingly worried’ about the dad-of-five from Swinton.

Speaking to the news publication, he said: “He just keeps to himself really. He’s really quiet, he works, he looks after my sister. He gets stuff every day for her.

“He’s self-employed and he just lives by his own means. He’s been really struggling because he’s not had much work, his mate gets him out to here and there to try and help him out.

“I spoke to his workmate and he said they’ve got quite a big job on, but he hadn’t come, and it’s not like him – the fact that he’s not gone whatsoever.”

In an update posted on Facebook last night, Ryan wrote: “Just to let everyone know my Dad’s body has unfortunately been found. Thanks for all the help and messages.

“Sorry I haven’t replied to everyone if you could please respect our privacy at this time would be much appreciated x.”
