If you’ve always thought the one thing missing from the Trafford Centre is a massive tropical-themed, warm water resort then you’re in luck.

Because that’s exactly what could be opening next door to the shopping centre, a 28-acre wellbeing resort.

Further details of the project – which will be located at the EventCity site – have now been revealed after a planning application was submitted last month, Place North West reports.

The huge indoor tropical-themed water resort would be constructed by Barton Dock Road, between Phoenix Way, Mercury Way and the Bridgewater Canal – the current EventCity will be moving to the building occupied by Soccerdome.

According to early reports, the venue would combine waterslides and wave pools with luxury spa experiences, creating ‘a true oasis in the city’.

The design is going to focus on nature and biodiversity, with plans to include cycle paths and footpaths, making it easier to get around TraffordCity and the neighbouring Bridgewater Canal.

Therme Group, the people behind the project, plan to have it opened by early 2022, with proposals including a 700,000 sq ft resort building, a 43,000 sq ft public square, a 38,000 sq ft lake and up to 1,500 car parking spaces.

Therme say the scheme aims to be: “The world’s most advanced wellbeing resort, accessible to all, embodying a perfect interplay of nature, technology and culture.”

Who’s excited for this then?
