Lewis, 49, has called on the Government to do more to help struggling families, as food and fuel prices skyrocket and taxes continue to rise.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Lewis said: “We need to keep people fed. We need to keep them warm. If we get this wrong right now, then we get to the point where we start to risk civil unrest.

“When breadwinners cannot provide, anger brews and civil unrest brews – and I do not think we are very far off. I would like to see more. But this is a Conservative government.”

The Money Saving Expert said he is ‘most scared for people’ around the UK, with energy bills soaring and the Bank of England raising interest rates to 0.75%.

According to reports in The Mirror, annual food bills are also rising by around £180, with council tax bills also set to go up by an average of £67 nationwide.

Despite growing pressure for Boris Johnson and his government to do more to assist people in need, the Prime Minister recently conceded that the cost-of-living crisis is ‘only going to get worse’.
