The portrait of Marcus Rashford in Withington has been vandalised over the weekend.

The powerful mural of the Manchester United striker by street artist Akse was created back in November, on the wall of Coffee House Café on Copson Street, Withington.

Now, the painting has been defaced with graffiti of a penis spraypainted on the footballer’s face.

Rashford has previously expressed his pride following the artwork, tweeting: “Ok I usually get embarrassed sharing these things because this journey was never really about me.

“But I know this took a lot of time and effort [Aske P19] and I wanted to say thank you.”

The mural in Withington was based on a photograph by Daniel Cheetham and created in collaboration with Withington Walls, a project ran by volunteers and donations aiming to bring Withington to life with colourful art.

A new mural has been created in the Northern Quarter as part of the Burberry campaign Rashford is a part of as of last month, aiming to support young people around the world.

The new mural can be spotted on the corner of Thomas Street and High Street in the Northern Quarter.
