Manchester United could finally be sold by the Glazers after 17 years, according to reports this evening.

The American owners are preparing to announce their intention to examine sources of outside investment, potentially including a full-blown auction, Sky News reports.

The Glazers’ time in charge of the Red Devils has been dominated by fan protests and a decline in on-pitch performances, culminating in Cristiano Ronaldo’s recent interview in which he openly criticised the club and owners.

According to Sky News, this evening, Tuesday November 22nd, sources revealed that United’s owners were instructing investment bankers to advise on the process.

This will most likely involve either a full or partial sale of the club, or a strategic partnership with third parties.

Today’s news that the American family – who took over United back in 2005 in a £790m deal which was largely funded by debt – is planning a review of financial options hints they might finally be willing to offload the club, which has seen a decade of footballing decline.

However, it also remains possible the Glazers decide not to sell.

This scenario could see a partial sale of United to new investors, so as to raise funds for an overdue redevelopment of Old Trafford.
