Axel, a ‘playful’ 7-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier is looking for the right someone to adopt him after becoming Manchester Dogs’ Home’s longest staying resident.
He has been living at the kennels, based at Crofter’s House in Harpurhey, for over 8 months and hopes not to spend another Christmas there, but rather with a loving adoptive family of his own.
The team of rescue staff believe that 2023 could be the fun and loveable Staffy’s year after his incredible transformation during his stay.
Staff members shared that on arrival, Axel was nervous of the kennel environment.
A spokesperson for the centre said: “As Axel became familiar with his surroundings and the staff he interacted with daily, he began to grow in confidence and would greet the staff each morning at the front of the kennel.
“He has spent some time in our secure compound where he has displayed a playful side; he will happily spend the afternoon chasing balls and will often show an interest in our agility equipment. This is where Axel appears to be most content and will jump up for a fuss and a cuddle.”

Axel even has a sense of humour and likes to show-off his tongue-out party trick, though it is important that he goes to the right owner.
Staff added: “Axel has met a number of our other dogs and although he is ok with some, he doesn’t like his space being invaded therefore he will need to be the only dog in the household and will require further training and socialisation around other dogs.
“Children in the household would need to be over the age of 16 years and he is unable to live with cats.”
After his long stint in rescue, Axel is ready to move into a place of his own with the right people. If you think you could provide him with the perfect forever home, you can fill out an application form on the Manchester Dogs Home website.
