Police officers have to face some vile abuse while just trying to do their jobs, and during coronavirus lockdown has been no exception.

One GMP officer had blood spat in their face while they tried to arrest a man in south Manchester this week.

The incident happened on Thursday morning at around 10.20am, when officers in Didsbury stopped a vehicle as part of a routine patrol, the Manchester Evening News reports.

As the occupant tried to flee the vehicle the police were able to detain him, but in the process of arresting the man one officer was spat at with blood.

To ensure the further safety of everyone involved, tasers were then deployed to subdue the individual.

GMP said in statement: “A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply and assaulting an emergency worker. He remains in police custody for questioning.”

The police seized a quantity of suspected drugs at the scene, and two officers later attended hospital as a precaution.
