Man dies after house explosion in Wythenshawe
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 6:30pm
A man has died following a shocking gas explosion in his home in Wythenshawe last night.
Emergency services rushed out to Brownley Road at around 6:30pm yesterday following the explosion. Sadly, the man was found dead inside.
Residents living in the twenty neighbouring houses were immediately evacuated, with those living in the closest proximity given temporary accommodation overnight.
A spokesperson from Greater Manchester Police said in a statement: “Emergency services attended Brownley Road, Manchester, at about 6:30pm tonight (March 31st 2022) after reports of a gas explosion.
“Sadly, a man was located deceased inside a property. A number of houses were evacuated and the scene made safe at about 8pm.
“Several properties are without power and emergency services remain on scene this evening with road closures in place.
“Investigations are ongoing and officers are supporting the deceased man’s family.”
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: “At around 6.30pm today (March 31st), crews were called to reports of a fire at a domestic property on Brownley Road in Manchester.
“Four fire engines from Bolton North, Cheadle, Wythenshawe and Stockport stations, and the Technical Rescue Unit from Ashton attended.
“Firefighters assessed the scene and are using breathing apparatus and hose reels to control the fire and make the scene safe.
“Crews are working with colleagues from Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service and are currently still on the scene.”
