Man charged with murder from 2015 after being on run for nine years

He was extradited from Pakistan after several years on the run

A man has been charged with murder after being on the run since 2015, police have said.

Abdul Ahsan, 27, of no fixed abode, has been charged with murder in relation to the death of Andre Marshall in 2015.

Enquiries made by Greater Manchester Police officers identified Ahsan, who was circulated as wanted in 2015.

After being on the run he was eventually tracked down to Pakistan and extradited in a joint effort by UK and Pakistani authorities. Ahsan was escorted back to the UK on Tuesday, January 16th, where he was remanded into custody.

Andre’s body was found at 7.26am on Wednesday, May 20th 2015, in the parking area of Manor Park, in Urmston, Trafford.

It was later established that he had died from multiple gunshot wounds. Two people have already been sentenced for their involvement in Andre’s murder.

On Thursday, May 19th 2016, Danial Shahid, now 26, was found guilty of assisting an offender following a trial at Manchester Crown Court and was sentenced to four years in prison. 

Kadell Rivers, now 29, pleaded guilty to assisting an offender and possession of an offensive weapon at an earlier hearing and on the same day was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.

Detective Chief Inspector Gina Brennand of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This charge is an important development in the investigation into the death of Andre Marshall.

“On behalf of our investigation team, I would like to thank our colleagues in the National Crime Agency and also the Pakistan Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), and the UK Crown Prosecution Service who have all jointly worked together to facilitate this progress in our investigation.

“GMP continues the pursuit to finding justice for Andre’s family.”

Ahsan will appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, January 17th.
