Man charged with murder as ‘dancing doorman’ named as victim of Levenshulme attack

A man has been charged with murder following the death of a doorman in Levenshulme – known as ‘The Dancing Doorman’.

The victim has been named as 36-year-old Harrison Marvin by friends, who have described the doorman as ‘kind and caring’ with the ‘best smile’.

Mr Marvin suffered fatal injuries after a fight which broke out on Rushmere Avenue on Sunday evening, July 9th, where he was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Samuel Obokiti, 29, of Rushmere Avenue in Levenshulme, has been charged with murder. Mr Obokiti has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester magistrates court on Wednesday July 12th.

According to friends and colleagues, Mr Marvin worked as a doorman at bars in the Stockport area, where he earned his affectionate nickname ‘The Dancing Doorman’.

Tributes have poured in on social media to honour Mr Marvin.

As reported in the Manchester Evening News, Shaun, owner of I-Guard security where Mr Marvin worked, said: “Taken far too soon, Harrison was an excellent employee who will be deeply missed by myself, our management and ultimately his colleagues he worked with.

“Harrison was a fantastic person who had a great personality and earned himself the title of ‘The Dancing Doorman’.

“I laid flowers outside his house yesterday when we received the news we were all in disbelief and shock. He truly was a large part of the I-Guard family.

“Our sympathies and condolences go out to his family. Truly black and gold forever.”

Friend Elleleigh said: “My G Harrison, you are simply the best, I will miss you so so much. I am honestly lost for words.

“You really are going to be missed so much my friend. It’s not a goodbye, it’s a see you later. All my love.”

Friends Danny, Matty, Mike and Jack said: “Harrison where do we all start, you was the best doorman, the best friend and best smile in the room.

“The whole of Hazel Grove will miss you so so much. You was funny, caring and kind. ‘The ‘Dancing Doorman’ may you rest peacefully, we all love you so much. Love the Bamboo Boys.”

And another friend Dion added: “We was like his family, our door company are devastated over losing such a funny and devoted employee. He always made everyone laugh and always had a smile on his face no matter what.

“He’s truly going to be missed by his door family and friends.”
