Man arrested boarding flight at Manchester Airport after gun found in luggage

Police descended on Manchester Airport yesterday after a gun was found in hold luggage.

Officers stormed Terminal 2 on Sunday at around 10.45am, September 3rd, after the discovery was made by staff in a passenger’s luggage.

A gun was seized and a man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm. He remains in custody for further questioning.

Details of which flight the luggage had been checked-in for have not yet been confirmed.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 10:45 am this morning (Sunday 3rd September 2023), officers were called to reports of a possible firearm being found in hold luggage by airport staff at Manchester Airport.

“After initial inspection by security staff, GMP officers attended, and the firearm was seized.

“Subsequently, a man has been arrested for possession of a firearm and remains in custody for further questioning.”
