M62 closed in both directions after man tragically killed in ‘serious collision’

A stretch of the M62 motorway is shut this morning after a man was hit by a car and killed.

The man, a pedestrian, was struck by a car on the stretch of motorway near Salford at around 12.15am Tuesday morning, September 19th, Greater Manchester Police have said.

Sadly, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old man remained at the scene and was taken into custody after being arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

The M62 is fully shut between Junction 12 for the Eccles interchange and Junction 11 for Birchwood, in both directions.

The motorway will remain closed while investigation work into the incident is being carried out. The closure is expected to remain in place throughout the morning.

Drivers have been advised to find an alternative route while officers continue to work at the scene and diversions are being put in place.
