Ikea will offer a new service where you can sell your old unwanted furniture back to them for up to half the price.
The Buy Back initiative will be launched in Ikea stores in the UK and Ireland on November 27th.
You will receive a voucher to spend in store, the value of which will be calculated based on the condition of the items returned.
Sideboards, bookcases, shelving, small tables, dining tables, office drawers, desks, chairs and stools without upholstery can all be returned if previously bought from Ikea. Some children’s products will also qualify for the scheme. You will just need to register for a request online.
‘As new’ pieces can land you with an Ikea voucher of up to half the original value of the furniture. Well-used pieced with several scratches will still get you up to 30% of the original value.
The world’s biggest furniture chain has been trialling the sale of used and patched-up furniture in the UK about a year ago, starting in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The scheme hopes to help to group’s efforts in becoming more environmentally friendly and move to a circular business model.
Ikea has outlined £2.9billion funding for measures to become carbon neutral by 2030.
Peter Jelkeby, the country retail manager for Ikea in the UK and Ireland, said: “Sustainability is the defining issue of our time and Ikea is committed to being part of the solution to promote sustainable consumption and combat climate change.
“With the launch of Buy Back we are giving a second life to many more Ikea products and creating more easy and affordable solutions to help people live more sustainably. It is an exciting step forward in our journey towards becoming a fully circular and climate positive business by 2030.”
