Another van has misjudged the height restriction and ended up stuck under a bridge in Wigan.
The stuck van caused delays to morning traffic while engineers worked to remove it from under the low bridge.
The incident happened yesterday morning (February 6th) causing traffic chaos around Wallgate and the surrounding areas.
Even the large yellow lettering which reads ‘Low Bridge’, on the side of the railway bridge over Prescott Street, wasn’t enough to deter the driver of the white lorry from trying their luck and driving under the low brick structure.
The motorist soon came to realise they had made an error of judgement.
Similar incidents seem to take place every month or so under this now infamous bridge, and locals have even set up a Facebook page called ‘Box Vans vs Prescott St Bridge’ documenting the number of opportunistic van drivers and their bridge fails.
Aside from the inconvenience the incident caused for morning commuters, some local residents managed to find a sense of humour about the situation.
One said: “If only there was a ‘low bridge’ sign.” Another said: “It’s had more hits than The Beatles that bridge.”
And a third added sarcastically: “First time for everything I suppose.”
The vehicle has since been removed.
