A Wetherspoons pub at a Haven holiday park in North Yorkshire has applied for permission to serve alcohol from eight in the morning.

If approved, the new ‘Spoons would serve thirsty punters two hours earlier than its current license.

The move comes after Haven Holidays signed a deal with JD Wetherspoon to operate at its parks, with the first one being in Filey at its Primrose Valley site.

The pub is currently called the Mash and Barrel, and its operating hours are 10am – 2am.

The holiday resort chain has applied to North Yorkshire Council for permission to change its license which would extend its hours. The park is also proposing changes to the layout of its venue, though not to the ‘remaining existing licensed areas’.

And it wants to set up a bingo hall at its Blue Dolphin Holiday Park in Filey’s Gristhorpe Bay – which it has applied for permission.

The holiday park company said its new ‘Spoons at Primrose Valley is set to open in March, and will add to the boozer’s 830 pubs across the UK.

Haven said the new £1.1 million site will feature a familiar interior with ‘all the hallmarks of a beloved Wetherspoons’, and its menu options will include salads and popular pub classics with 250 seats for customers.

Haven has invested £4 million into its food and drink offerings at its 38 resorts in the UK and is the ‘first and only holiday park operator’ to launch a ‘Spoons venue at one of its sites.

About the soon to open Wetherspoons, Haven’s chief operating officer, Peter Blake, previously said: “We are thrilled to be the first holiday provider to partner with one of the UK’s leading and much-loved pub operators.

“This new venture underlines our dedication to growing our food and beverage partnerships and offering for our holidaymakers and holiday home owners.”
