The Met Office has released a yellow warning for snow and ice across much of the North including Greater Manchester.

Temperatures in Manchester are expected to plummet to 0C over the weekend, with a weather warning in place for Monday and Tuesday.

You might have noticed some glorious blue skies today with a brisk temperature – the rest of the day is set to look much of the same turning cloudy in the late afternoon.

It’s set to remain cold all week with outbreaks of rain and snow.

It comes after the Met Office issue a snow and ice warning for most of the northern parts of the UK. It’s warned that further severe weather could trigger more flooding in England.

Forecaster Simon Partridges said temperatures will plunge as low as -6C in England overnight and between -10C and -15C in Scotland.

A heavy downpour of rain is set to arrive on Monday night into Tuesday, which is expected to ‘quickly turn into snow’ as it bumps into the cold air, triggering the weather warning.

Across the North West, snow is expected to be widespread with more than eight inches falling in some places like Cumbria and 0.4 to four inches in other less rural areas.

A smaller dusting of snow is expected Thursday before strong winds on Friday.

The regions set to be affected in the North West are:

  • Blackburn with Darwen
  • Cheshire East
  • Cumbria
  • Greater Manchester
  • Lancashire
