Sir Elton John headlined Glastonbury, joined by special guest performances on the Pyramid Stage as he drew the festival to a close.

As the Rocket Man made his debut at Glastonbury, he wowed fans with his epic set in what he’s described as his final UK show.

The 76-year-year-old marked the end of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in a career that has spanned over 50 years.

At around 9pm, the show man walked onto stage and gave an epic performance of his greatest hits, wowing fans as he told them: “I’m so happy to be here. I won’t ever forget this.”

He kicked off with his version of Pinball Wizard, by The Who, followed by hit after hit including Bennie And The Jets, Tiny Dancer, Your Song, I’m Still Standing, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road and I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues.

The two-hour long epic show saw special guests join Sir Elton on stage as he championed rising stars.

Jacob Lusk of US soul group Gabriels sang Are You Ready For Love; while pop newcomer Rina Sawayama took Kiki Dee’s place on a rousing Don’t Go Breaking My Heart and Nashville’s Stephen Sanchez — who sang his own song Until I Found You.

Brandon Flowers of The Killers also shared the stage with Sir Elton as his third guest and together they sang a duet of Tiny Dancer.

Sir Elton told the crowd: “My next guest I first met in 2005 when I first started playing Las Vegas, and he came to my hotel suite to play me his band’s first album Hot Fuss – we’ve been friends ever since.”

There was some disappointment from fans expecting big names to join the legend on stage with rumours of potential special guests being Sir Paul McCartney, Harry Styles and Dua Lipa — who only appeared on screen for Cold Cold Heart.

Sir Elton told fans: “The person I did the song with isn’t here so I’m going to ask you to sing her part and sing it loudly.”

However, it had to be admired that the huge star instead chose to give a platform for up and coming talented singers and musicians as crowds truly enjoyed his epic performance.

Sir Elton’s set started with dazzling displays and ended with spectacular fireworks as he told the huge crowd: “I never thought I’d ever play Glastonbury.

“It’s a very special and emotional night for me because it might be my last show ever in England, so I had better play well and I had better entertain you, you’ve been standing there so long and I really appreciate all the outfits and everything. Amazing.”

Then he drew the curtain on his UK touring career with a lengthy version of Rocket Man, as he was met with applause and cheers by a completely overwhelmed Glastonbury crowd.

With a lump in his throat the star said: “It’s been an incredible journey and I’ve had the best, best time.”
