Two dogs had to be rescued over the weekend as they were left in a car during the 35C heatwave ‘for over two hours’.

The dogs were spotted by locals in a car park near Looe Beach in Cornwall. Police were called after the owner was nowhere to be seen.

Local man, Kieran Mccrash Mclelland, shared the event on social media where he said the dogs had been left in the car ‘for over two hours’, with no one returning to check on them.

The photo of the car has now been shared over 400 times on social media.

Many people were outraged, with some users commenting on the post that they would have ‘smashed the windows in’ themselves, and others saying ‘how can someone do that’.

The situation came as thousands flocked to Britain’s beaches during the heatwave over the weekend.

Many locals in Cornwall expressed concerns saying the towns were ‘chaotic’.

Throughout the heatwave, many animal charities have been urging everyone to look after pets who are left in dangerous situations.

An RSPCA spokesperson stated: “Animals don’t always realise when they’re too hot so it’s important that we keep a close eye on them.

“Ensure they have constant access to cool or shady areas and freshwater, avoid exercising them during the hottest parts of the day, and never, ever leave them alone in a hot car, caravan, conservatory or outbuilding.”

Battersea Dogs & Cats home advised pet owners: “Do not leave your dog alone in the car under any circumstances, leaving them alone in a car when it is warm for even a few minutes can be fatal – even if the car is parked in the shade, or a window has been left open.”

The RSCPA’s website states to call 999 if you see a dog in distress in a hot car.
