Captain Tom Moore has been awarded a knighthood for his incredible fundraising efforts for our NHS.
The news broke last night that he had received a special nomination from the Prime Minister, and the whole nation is united in thinking he truly deserves it.
The World War II veteran raised nearly £33 million for the NHS by completing 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday at the end of April.
Captain Tom has now spoken out about the honour on BBC Breakfast this morning, saying he’s ‘overawed’ by it.
Speaking from his home in Bedfordshire, he said: “I am overawed by the fact that this has happened to me.”
The knighthood has been approved by the Queen, and will be formally announced today, the BBC reports.
As well as the knighthood, Captain Tom was also made an honorary colonel, but his official title will be Captain Sir Thomas Moore – under Ministry of Defence protocol.
