Captain Tom has completed his walk around his garden to raise money for the NHS.
The absolute hero has managed to raise more than £12 million for the health service, as he finished his garden laps today.
Tom completed his 100th lap this morning, Thursday April 16th, live on BBC Breakfast.
The World War II hero has managed to raise a massive £12,277,024.15 for the NHS, at the time of writing, with donations still coming in.
The 99-year-old originally set out to raise £1,000 by walking a hundred lengths of his back garden – which is 25m in length – with the help of his walking frame, before he turns 100 at the end of the month.
It’s safe to say he absolutely smashed his original target, as his mission to raise funds for our health service went viral over the past few days.
The JustGiving page gives an insight into his background: “Tom was born and brought up in Keighley, Yorkshire. He went to Keighley Grammar School and later completed an apprenticeship as a Civil Engineer.
“Tom went onto being enlisted in 8 DWR (145 RAC) at the beginning of the war, and in 1940 was selected for Officer training.
“He was later posted to 9DWR in India, and served and fought on the Arakan, went to Regiment to Sumatra after the Japanese surrender and returned to be Instructor at Armoured Fighting Vehicle School in Bovington.”
Well done Captain Tom, what an absolutely incredible effort! Give that man a knighthood…
