Boris Johson is reportedly considering ‘scrapping’ the ‘rule of six’ for Christmas Day.

The ‘rule of six’ that was introduced earlier this month has left many people concerned about their Christmas plans, and what it means for the season’s festivities.

However, the latest reports reveal that Prime Minister Boris Johnson is considering lifting the ‘rule of six’ for Christmas Day so ‘friends and family can be together’.

According to reports, scrapping the ‘rule of six’ for the festive day is a ‘sweetener’ for announcements on further restrictions.

A source told The Sun: “The PM is anxious to avoid being portrayed as Scrooge.

“He’s fully aware that millions of people are making big sacrifices to defeat this virus and is considering ways to allow them to experience the joy of Christmas for at last part of the holiday season.”

Currently, anyone caught breaking the rule of six people could face a £100 fine, which increases to a maximum of £3,200 for repeat offences.

However, for Christmas this rule could potentially be scrapped and fines ditched for the day.

Many people have taken to Twitter following the rumours with one person saying: “Can we just take a moment to know Boris Johnson has an education from Eaton and yet comes out with sh*t like I will lift the rule of six for Christmas, because obviously COVID takes Christmas off as a holiday.”

Another pointed out that lockdown easing was postponed with ‘3 hours notice’ before Eid, but that covid will be ‘inactive on Christmas day’.

A third wrote: “If the government think anyone will stick to rule of six at Christmas then they are having a laugh”.
