Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak are being fined for breaking lockdown laws by attending parties during the national lockdown.

The Prime Minister and Chancellor will be fined by the police for attending the gatherings while the rest of the country was in lockdown.

Downing Street confirmed they had both received notification from the Metropolitan Police that they would be given fixed penalty notices, the BBC reports.

However, a spokesman revealed they are yet to be told which event the fine relates to.

The Met Police is investigating 12 gatherings at both Downing Street and Whitehall, looking for alleged Covid law-breaking.

More than 50 fines have been handed out so far, but it’s the first time we’ve been privy to who has received a fine.

The police previously said they won’t be disclosing the identity of anyone fined, but the government promised they would confirm the news if Johnson and Sunak were included.

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said: “Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak have broken the law and repeatedly lied to the British public. They must both resign.

“The Conservatives are totally unfit to govern. Britain deserves better.”
